Scotland - Machars - Monreith - Fell of Barhullion 12 May 2022

 At around 1030 we set off with packed lunch and ginger cake to walk to Blairbuy, and round to Monreith House. Past White Loch of Myrton and Drumfad, then up Fell of Barhullion from the other side. Home by around 2, having walked almost 6 miles, and 380 feet of climbing - a very varied walk, from bluebell woods and lakeside sunshine to a windy lunch on top of the Fell. 

Weather started very fine, but it clouded over and the wind picked up a bit as the day progressed. It even rained later - about 4.30.

We stayed at Stellock, just outside Monreith, on the Machars Peninsula, which includes Port William, Whithorn and Isle of Whithorn.

We had a simple lunch and headed towards the Fell of Barhullion, which is just over half a mile behind the house , and at a dizzy height of 136 metres. Slightly higher than Corby or Gretton. The views across to the coast and over the landscape are excellent, with the mountains of the Forest of Galloway in the distance. Lots of gorse, bluebells and other flowering plants. Curious cattle in the fields caused us no trouble.  We descended via Blairbuy (Blairbuie) and Blairbuy Loch - a circuit of around 2.5 miles, over some rough terrain. Chatted to a woman wearing a volunteers fleece - she lives at Blairbuy. Returned just before a very short shower.  Chilled out in the warm conservatory again. (4.7 miles and first time over 10k steps since March 19th).
