Saturday 11th May
We were sorry to leave the Old Boys School in Carrshield. It has been a place of natural magic this time, with bats and birds and the aurora.
However, we packed and left and headed towards Scotland. We we held up by heavy traffic - sheep - not far into the journey.
First stop was for coffee and teacake at Lanercost Priory.
They have an excellent tea and coffee shop - they make their own blend, roast and ground on the premises.
Lots of walkers and cyclists there, and a lovely bridge over the river Irthing.
Lots of swifts flying around.
Then we made our way back to the main road, skirting Brampton to reach the M6 and Gretna.
Stopped in a lay-by for egg and bread and coffee - very warm sun.
Picked up some basic supplies in Dalbeattie - a co-op and a spar, there.
Then on to Dundrennan where we visited the abbey.
Free with English Heritage membership. The curator was English, a Crewe Alexandra supporter, telling us of his problems leaving a year old puppy, so couldn’t go to Wembley.
Some of the gravestones told detailed stories, a reminder of the ones in Portpatrick.
Finally we travelled the final couple of miles to the cottage at Orroland.
