Tittesworth Reservoir. - anticlockwise

Saturday 29th March

We observed this morning’s partial solar eclipse by projecting the image through binoculars

and the holes in a lemon juicer

After lunch  we went to Tittesworth Reservoir, and walked round it anticlockwise. 4.5 miles.

We followed the Crabapple Trail close to the waters edge on the eastern side, which was pleasant.

Sheltered from the wind down there, unlike back at Ridgehead where it’s very blustery still.  Quite a few people out - for a cold March Saturday. 

 

25 Feb 2024 Tittesworth Reservoir

Sunday 25th Feb 2024

Misty this morning, big contrast with yesterday. There is a chill wind. 

We went out about ten to Tittesworth reservoir, where we had coffee (still too weak) and flapjack or scone (large and lovely) before walking round the reservoir anti-clockwise .  

As expected on a decent weather Sunday, there were lots of people there.

The weather has been dry with some sunshine, and sheltered from the cold wind of the high places.

An excellent walk of around 4.5 miles, quite up and down, and with one or two small patches of mud. Catkins on the (hazel) bushes. Great view of a distant Shutlingsloe from a high point, then of the Roaches, Hen Cloud and Ramshaw Rocks.

A delight to revisit and to refill the contentment reservoir…

4.5 miles, 200 feet of ups and downs.

Tittesworth Reservoir to Ramshaw Rocks

 Saturday 7th October 2023

With Harry. Something over 6 miles, with about 750 feet of climbing, and a few muddy patches. Stunning weather, stunning views. 

We set off just after 11am, parking at Tittesworth Reservoir.  We joined the Churnet Way, turning right along the road and walked past Middle Hulme Farm. 

There was a great view of Hen Cloud and Ramshaw Rocks.

In spite of signs we managed to create a small diversion before reaching Upper Hulme.

Time for a quick coffee before tackling a steep section

And we missed the slightly hidden turning from the surfaced road to the narrow footpath along the diminutive Churnet…and climbed a few extra feet, but were soon back on track. This section was quite wet and slippery in parts, but very pretty.

From then on we took more care and followed the route past the entrance to Naychirch Farm, and across moorland to the minor road near Ramshaw Rocks. We crossed this and made our way to the top, where we found a spot for lunch.

We made our way back via the same route, minus diversions. A more rugged six miler than the ones I normally do, and very enjoyable.

Ramshaw Rocks on our drive to Tittesworth

A trip out to Tittesworth Reservoir, a couple of miles north of Leek. 

Our first call, even before walking, was naturally for a coffee( a bit weak) and a scone(pretty good). We took a gentle stroll clockwise round the reservoir.  

Gentle, but not entirely flat, mainly through woodland. Four and a half miles, with some good views back to Ramshaw Rocks and the Roaches, which made a dramatic serrated backdrop to the water.  We decided to return to our base for lunch and a large cup of tea.

Weather mainly dull and dry, with some warm sunshine and a very few spots of rain.
