June 2nd 2025 - Warkton to Wicksteed

 Monday 2nd June

Walk with Harry and Maureen. From Warkton to Wicksteed Park, along the Ise.

 A wander round the park before coffee and  teacakes at the Carousel cafe.

There’s a distant view of Barton Seagrave church from park and plenty of goslings and cygnets on the pools.

Almost 6 miles in all.

Warkton to Wicksteed

 Monday 19th June 2023

With Maureen.  Almost 6 miles.

At 0915, we drove to Warkton, parked in the lay by near the narrow bridge and walked the path along the east of the Ise, into Kettering and Wicksteed.

We had a slightly early coffee at the Carousel cafe, then a slow wander round the park which is looking pretty good.

We returned to the lay by, following almost the same route, but crossing the Ise to the west side.

Weekley, Warkton, Wicksteed

 Monday 20th June

Walk with Norma and Maureen. Norma drove.

Weather cloudy at start but brightened and warmed.

Parked at Warkton lay-by, walked to Weekley via “Conservation path”, along 

the Ise, close to the Boughton Estate.

Into the village via avenue and large gates, past the cricket ground near the church 

and old school etc.

We followed the bridleway from Weekley, back to the lay-by. 

We continued from our parking space out to Wicksteed.

We had coffee and scone before walking back mostly along the other side 

of the Ise. A few butterflies including a couple of red admirals.

6.5 miles in all.

Warkton to Wicksteed (with a wander round Paradise…)

 Friday 28th January . About 6.5 miles in all. With Marta …the day we went to Paradise by way of Wicksteed Park.

A chilly day for sitting around…but sunny too.

Warkton to Wicksteed

Wednesday 25 September. With Marta. We set off at 1.30 pm, not our usual morning wander. Just under 6.5 miles.

We parked at the layby by the single carriageway bridge in Warkton, and took the footpath immediately on our left. The path hugs the River Ise almost the whole way. 

We kept it on our right and walked through countryside and parkland, close to the Ise Lodge estate. After 2 miles we came to Cheyne Walk, then Eastleigh Road and passed two schools.
We came to the junction of the A6098 and the A6003, and crossed over into Wicksteed Park.  Time for a quick lunch at the Carousel Cafe.

Then a stroll around the park, remembering what an asset it is to Kettering. Free to enter if you don't need to park, although the best rides cost money, of course.

We followed the same route most of the way back, with a detour to find The Green Patch, a community allotment which has been in operation for 10 years.  We were too late to go in.

A very pleasant walk on the edge of Kettering.
