A word of warning. The walk descriptions are not detailed enough to guide you - please take a map. The batteries never run out, and you always have a signal. Oh, And don't take left or right as gospel!

Short walks from Earl Sterndale

Tuesday 20th September 2022

A week at Hilldale Cottage in Earl Sterndale, Derbyshire.

In the morning I walked a couple of miles past the church and the primary school.

The road turned into a longish stony track leading uphill to the quarry.

Looking back to views of the Dragon’s Back and High Wheeldon Tor.

Sheep, cows and rooks plus one butterfly.

A heap of felled tree logs (ash dieback?)

Came down through a couple of fields of wet grass, past Braemar House farm.

Through a gate which has warped rather, and was very difficult to close. I turned right along the road, and paused for a fleeting glimpse of the duck pond.

Decided not to go in and disturb the denizens.

Later with Harry I walked another two miles or so, along Crowdecote Road, past the climbing area of Aldery Cliff,

and up High Wheeldon  (422 meters - 1384 feet)

coming down close to Wheeldon Trees cottages, and back. A steep ascent and descent.
Back ‘home’ for cuppa and rather sweet tart.
