Corby Woods

Thursday 16th June
As it was forecast to be hot I suggested to Maureen we walked through Corby
woods where there is lots of shade.

Coffee at Boating Lake cafe and scones just after the travellers’ camp alongside

Cottingham Road. We did around 5 miles.

Geddington to Brigstock via Clay Dick

 Tuesday 14th June

I drove to Marta’s for 9.30, then we walked over to Brigstock. Not many insects - a few bees and butterflies.
Weather pleasantly sunny, becoming very warm, even hot. as the day advanced.
Coffee under a tree looking out over fields,

with the result that we were not ready to eat anything in Brigstock.
We walked around, looking at the Saxon church and the village.

9.5 miles.

Rushton and Pipewell circular

 Monday 13th June

From Dave Askew’s website - thank you.

Be careful at point 4 - don’t turn left parallel to the railway, just keep straight on the wider path.

At point 13   the footpath sign is almost hidden in the hedge, but the path through the crops is clear.

At point 14, just check the instructions carefully as we went the wrong way briefly!

Over to Maureen’s for 9.30, drove to Rushton, and did walk to Pipewell,

where we sat on a (different) bench and had a short break before returning via road and a field path. Passed Triangular
Lodge,

and walked through churchyard into
Rushton. Just under 6 miles from where we parked.
Home for lunch.
Warm but cloudy - slightly humid.

Gretton to Kirby Hall, at around 5pm

 Saturday 11th June

After tea we walked over to Kirby Hall.

Cows just settling for the evening, barley blown and caressed by the wind, fine cloudy skies.

About 4.5 miles.

Gretton, Thorpe by Water, Lyddington (reverse of walk from June 2nd)

 Monday 6th June

Weather not brilliant - walked down to Norma’s and began our walk.
We did Thursday’s walk in reverse, but heard no cuckoos this time. No photos, either!

We returned via Thorpe Road and the footpath from Thorpe by Water, passing a field of cows and a bull who was far more interested in approaching a cow, than he was in us.
4.5 miles ish, ending with coffee and teacake in Lydia’s.

Gretton, Thorpe by Water, Lyddington

Thursday 2nd June

After coffee, we decided to walk over to Lyddington via Thorpe by Water, and heard the cuckoo just as we had crossed the railway line,

and several times as we approached the river. We saw a couple of herons and lots of cows. A brief pause on the usual seat on Thorpe Road.

On the way back via the road we noticed alpacas in a field,

and once again close to the river we heard the cuckoo .

We were delayed by a flock of sheep being herded for shearing…

 About 4.5 miles.

Gretton to Harringworth Lodge

Monday 30th May
Weather grey but not quite as breezy as recently. Met Norma and Kate at village hall at 9, and we did a walk out to Harringworth Lodge, via the ridge edge route. Around 6 miles in all.

A field full of different breeds of cow - highland, ?longhorn, frisian, and one like a belted Galloway, but brown, plus a large bison looking bull.

We had a break at Harringworth Lodge pond, where we heard a very loud cuckoo, twice.

On return we had lunch at Lydia’s.
