Short outing from Ty’n Rhyd (3) Coastal path and Porth Ysgo

 Wednesday 07

Grey - the hills have hunkered down with clouds around their shoulders
Hiding their heads, afraid of the sun? A damp morning with a changing horizon.
The weather cleared in the afternoon. We walked around the lanes and along the coastal path to Porth Ysgo.

Past the info about the magnesium Tramway.
Feet had to be dipped in the sea. A pebbly beach.

short outing from Ty’n Rhyd (2) Aberdaron and Nant Gwrtheyrn

Tuesday 06July
We decided on a less energetic day after our excursion on Mynydd Rhiw on Monday… a short stroll along the road and round the garden to enjoy a wee blast of sun.
Then a ride into Aberdaron and back to buy bread and milk, I walked up the initial hill on the return leg, using photo stops as my excuse.

We drove over to the Welsh Language Centre at Nant Gwrtheyrn for a nose around and a coffee and cake. In the late afternoon the rain started.

Short stretches from Ty’n Rhyd (1) Porth Ysgo

Sunday 04 July. Walked down to Porth Ysgo via roads. A lovely cove and wild flowers glowing in the verges, and on the cliff path  all the way.

Honeysuckle’s tempting scent
splashes of red campion
foxgloves’ spikes against the blue
mabinogic meadowsweet
lady’s bedstraw
tormentil,
stonecrop’s stars on rock
elderflowers
hawkbit
common spotted orchid and sheep’s bit.
penny wort spikes of yellow.

From Aberdaron round the headland of Pen-y-cil

 Thursday 08 July

Pen-y-cil walk around the headland, in much better conditions than last year, when we were well and truly soaked.
1700 + feet of climbing. Just over 10 miles. Some very steep climbs and descents.
Best foot forward?
Avon Daron and Aberdaron

A boat leaves for Bardsey Island

People: A couple who said we could avoid the up and down to one cove near Aberdaron…
A man who works in Porthmadog who told us half his life story before continuing on his way towards Nefin. A long walk…
A couple who told us they thought one of the horses was a zebra, until they realised it was wearing a coat…

Back home for dinner, then we drove up to Mynydd Mawr for the sunset view.
A satisfying day.

Wales - near Rhiw - Mynydd Rhiw and coastal path.

 Monday 05 July

A much better weather forecast. We set off just after 10. Walked up to radar station, had coffee on a rocky outcrop above it. Then along to Mynydd Rhiw (304m), down to the road and took a path along a lane with a house where the Welshman directed us…don’t take that path, the council haven’t strimmed it, and it’s full of snakes…. we may have ended up there, past the Saints’ Well,in spite of ourselves.  The footpath signs were there to start with, but then we made a steep descent to the track, over rough ground, guarded by brambles. From then on it was straightforward along towards Plas, to join the coastal Path on the cliffs towards Llanfaelryhs, and back.  Horses running free on the paths. 1080 feet of climbing.  9.8 miles. A brilliant day.

Our objective

From here on some of the photos are not in order….
